Hmmm? What's this? A new Norwegian band on the block that has made it to the shores of Australia, that isn't Black Metal? What the?
Datarock may be from the same town as the infamous 'Varg Vikernes (Burzum)', but this band has become famous for a completely different sound. If I was to describe this band in one sentence I'd probably say 'Devo meets a quirky Talking heads'. I'd also say that the band is one of those new age electronic rock bands.
The band's lyrics are quite cheeky at times with lyrics like this
"Did you get in her pants?
Shes not that kind of a girl booger!
Why, does she have a penis?"
found in 'Computer Camp Love' the third track of the album.
But at the same time the songs are quite catchy. The song 'Fa-Fa-Fa' is a really catchy song and contains some really original uses of the guitar.
All in All. Datarock is quite an original band. They're fun to listen and there songs a catchy. There just two guys from Norway having some fun and breaking the Black Metal sterotype at the same time.
